Wiederer Is The Lastest German To Wind His Way To The Sharks

The San Jose Sharks seem to never shy away from taking German hockey players. The team has had a lot of success with bringing in German players--Marcel Goc, Thomas Greiss, Christian Ehrhoff and fan favorite Marco Sturm—so reaching into the heart of Europe is something of a specialty for San Jose. Manuel Wiederer, who was San Jose's fifth-round selection in this June's NHL Entry Draft, hopes to become the next name on that illustrious list.
Wiederer—the second overage player selected by the Sharks in a 2016 draft that also brought them Denver forward Dylan Gambrell—spent the 2014-2015 season in the German elite men’s league (DEL), appearing in 29 games for the Straubing Tigers. Wiederer recorded a goal and an assist, and his experience in a professional league helped him prepare for a move to the QMJHL's Moncton Wildcats, on loan from Straubling to the Wildcats for the 2015-16 season.
